This section of the World Bowls website deals with matters relating to the training and accreditation of umpires world wide. In the period between October 2006 and December 2007, the World Bowls Laws Committee produced a series of documents to support the introduction of a uniform set of training and examination procedures worldwide. The documents were approved by the board of World Bowls in January 2008. In addition to the documents, a DVD has been produced to complement the training process. Copies can be obtained by contacting the appropriate National Authority - details of which can be found by clicking on 'Members' on the home-page of the World Bowls website.
I purchased a copy from our
National Authority, English Bowls Umpires Association, and have
now had chance to review the DVD. (£10). We have a bowls
management meeting at our Club ISCA IBC early in June, and I
shall be recommending that we try to get as many of our 470
members to come along in groups to view the DVD, and hopefully
get some of them able to measure correctly and mark a singles
game professionally!!! I understand the DVD was made in a
Scottish Club and our Development Officer was involved in the
content. I feel it is a valuable resource for all clubs to
have.
