Costa Blanca Umpires and Markers
Association:
Robin Baxter, Bob Cockell, Tony
Nicholls, Rick Shiel, Mary Cockell, Gina Streeter and Jean
Cooper, along with Instructors Tony Lawley and Harry Winfield,
together with our hosts at Albir Bowls Club Jackie Breslin and
Bridget.
I am delighted to see that the Malaga Province Umpires and Markers Association is intent, under its new leadership, to recruit more members with plans for new courses for umpires and markers. Here on the Costa Blanca we continue to run courses fairly frequently - a markers course has recently been completed, with 11 successful candidates; an umpires course will be starting this week. The format of both of these courses has been changed in the last year with a greater emphasis now being placed on practical skills.
Earlier this year we started update
courses to include preparation for the introduction of
the revised laws, and further courses will doubtless be needed.
Copies of the new law books are available for purchase at all
clubs. I am confident that we will be ready for the long-delayed
introduction of these laws in April. The finals of the National
Championships, once again in this area, will of course be
conducted under the revised laws, though the eliminating rounds
for singles will not.
I wish the new committee of the
Malaga Association well, and look forward to a greater degree of
cooperation and coordination of umpires and markers associations
throughout Spain.
Tony Lawley
President
Costa Blanca Umpires and Markers
Association
