Opening planned for August 2008

Many bowlers who live inland from the Costa del Sol will be excited by the news of a new Lawn Bowls club, opening soon. Located In the beautiful Guadalhorce Valley, between Alhaurin de la Torre and Alhaurin el Grande, the club will augment the many extra facilities offered by the Lauro Golf Club, including a golf school, equestrian centre, tennis & paddle tennis. The new club should also attract coastal residents, being only 20 mins. from the A7, (much less when the new tunnel is completed next year.)

This exciting project is the brainchild of golfer and bowler, Ken Talbot, who resides by the golf course. Ken has worked tirelessly with the imaginative club owner, Carlos Pitarch Little, to bring the project to fruition. Ken plans to run the facility as a fully fledged Bowls Club, organising open tournaments, participating in the Costa del Leagues and generally integrating with the existing Malaga clubs.

Latest Construction Technology Employed

The six rink base top surface will be constructed by Sportcrete, who employ a revolutionary non-concrete system, with excellent drainage properties. This company, based in the UK with branches in the US and Australia, were recently contracted to build the successful new artificial green at Benavista Bowls Club, near Estepona. Many people predict that this system will replace traditional concrete base technology, due to speed of construction and maintenance advantages.

The bowling surfaces will be supplied by Dales, who have established a dominant position in Spain in this field.

Completion for this phase is scheduled for mid August, so it is hoped the club will be up and running very early in September.
