It is with sorrow we report the death of Clive Brindle, on 23 April 2007, aged 71. Clive took up lawn bowls in the mid 70’s, whilst attending a BBQ at HK United Dockyard Bowling Club. He liked it so much that he joined (KBGC) Kowloon Bowling Green Club, where he became a 1st class top bowler. He was poached and asked to join (HKFC) Hong Kong Football Club, where true to form Clive got involved in the running of the club, and became chairman of greens. Clive initiated, ran and obtained sponsorship for the Hong Kong classics, with invites going to the world’s top bowlers. The HK Classics is still being played today. Whilst in HK, in 1991, Clive represented HK in the triples at the South Pacific Games in Papa New Guinea, where he won a silver medal. He was the HK, FAB representative at the Commonwealth games in Edinburgh in 1986, and was President of the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association in 1986/87. In 1993 he retired from his job as MD of Worldwide Shipping, and moved to Turre, Spain in 1994. In March 1995, he and his wife, Linda, joined the Cabrera Lawn Bowling Club, Turre and later in that year he, as skip, won the Spanish National Championships in both the Fours and Pairs. In 2000 he was member of the team representing Spain in the World Bowls qualifiers in Johannesburg, thus having participated internationally for both of his adopted countries. In 2001, he became a founder member of the Indalo Bowls Club, Los Gallardos where he took an active part in the general maintenance of the green and site and assisted in the development of bowling at the club. The Brindle Cup, which is a unique " 4-2-4 Hong Kong Pairs Competition” introduced to the club by Clive, will carry on in his memory. Clive will be sorely missed by all his friends and family.
