JOHN  MULDOON - HISTORY

In 1980 at the age of 26, John commenced bowling at Clarkston (Airdrie) outdoor bowls club in Lanarkshire, Scotland, where he represented Lanarkshire county at under 35 level. A year later he joined the prestigious Coatbridge Indoor bowls Club, where he represented his club in the Scottish under 35 league.

In 1987John,s work took him to England, where firstly he arrived in Northamptonshire, where he became a member of both The Raunds Conservative outdoor bowls club and Wellingborough Indoor bowls club, John gained many honours there including club singles championships.

In 1989 again John's work had him on the move this time to Long Sutton in Lincolnshire, bowling was always important to him and he played at outdoor with the local Long Sutton club and the more successful Royal Mail Cart Club in Spalding. At Indoor bowling, which was always John's favourite he was a member of Long Sutton Indoor Bowls club for 15 years, where he won many honours, was chairman of the club for 6 years, and represented Lincolnshire County and competed  in Liberty

Trophy, Midland Counties and Eastern Counties, as well as many County and National competitions with his club.

In 2004, just short of his 50th birthday John took the opportunity of early retirement and moved with his wife Eleanor to the Costa Blanca in Spain, where he promised her that bowling was in the past, so within two months he joined Quesada bowls club. In 2005 John successfully completed trials and became a member of the Spanish International squad, where he has represented his adopted country on many occasions and has traveled to Hong Kong, China and Portugal various times.

In the early part of this year 2010, John resigned from the International scene, and after 30 years in the world of bowls, many at the top level, he now feels he wishes to put something back to a sport that has been very good to him. He therefore applied and was successful in being appointed the National Director of Bowls in Spain. John wishes to continue the good work of his predecessors and further the sport of bowls in Spain, and with the help of all clubs and bowlers alike, he feels we can all be successful in this quest.
