16/05/2009 - FEB Budget 2009 - Tony Winterton

Federation Funding 2009 - Preamble

As Lawn Bowlers we are affiliated to WORLD BOWLS which has a membership   in excess of 577.000 (2009) to which Spain contributes 2,747 making us the tenth largest group.

World Bowls requires us to belong to a National Authority which in our case is the Federación Española de Bolos (FEB) and in turn to the regional federations,  Federación  de Bolos de la Comunidad Valenciana (FBCV)  and the Federación Andaluza de Bolos (FAB).  The FEB has no jurisdiction in the regions, its remit being National and International events both incoming and outgoing. The regional federations are responsible for events within their own region for members of that region and are also required to run national events on behalf of the FEB

FEB.

As a result of the increase in membership arising out of the introduction of the Corporate fee in Andalucia Lawn bowls is now entitled to four permanent seats on the National Assembly which governs the Federation of which two are for clubs and two for players. This has also given rise to an increase in funding from the National Sports Council as shown in the 2009 Budget below.

Of the licence fee paid in each region € 14 goes to the FEB the balance being retained by the regional federations. For 2009 945 licences have been issued making a contribution of € 13,230 representing approximately 11% of the FEB’s licence revenue of € 112,000.

It is interesting to note that due to the fact tourism is one of Spain’s largest industries, the Federation does not fund the National Squad activity as this comes directly from the C.S.D. (National Sports Council).

Regional Federations

These are much smaller organisations which also receive funding from their governments which we use whenever possible   However, our difficulty in accessing these funds is that traditionally most inter club championships and tournaments are run by local committees. If one presumes that most competitive bowlers federate we should try and make more use of our “in house” sponsor.
