Accident Insurance by Mutualidad General Deportiva

The Federation’s accident insurance is provided by the MUTUALIDAD GENERAL DEPORTIVA, address: Evaristo San Miguel 8- 4º, 28008 Madrid. Tel: 91 559 0314, Fax 91 541 4968, E-mail mgd.generales@develnet.es. The web site is www.mdg.es.

This is a PRIVATE scheme using private doctors, medical centres and hospitals and does not use the Spanish Health Service. (Those of you entitled to do so may prefer to use the health service and forgo the M.G.D. scheme).

Cover is provided for medical expenses incurred in respect of any accident suffered by a bowler, together with an indemnity in respect of permanent injury or disability, under the following circumstances:

That he is taking part in any competition or sporting activity organized by a governing body (including a club) and being played on a green or other surface duly authorized by that governing body.

That he is practising or training for any activity duly supervised by trainers or other officials of the governing body.

When he is travelling singly or as part of a team or group by public transport to an event duly authorized by a governing body. (This is a subsidiary clause - i.e. the claim has to be made against another party first if possible).

Standard Procedure to be Followed for Sporting Accidents.

Attention at the scene is the responsibility of the organization hosting the event. You must then go to a medical centre contracted to the Mutualidad General Deportiva, (M.G.D.). Obtain the list of authorized centres from your Club, Federation or telephone the M.G.D. for the information. Likewise by Internet on www.mgd.es. Please note that the cost of an ambulance is only met if the injury is of such a nature that you remain in hospital overnight.

Take with you an accident report form (obtain this from your club, Federation representative or Delegate) together with your I.D. card (or passport) and Federation Licence card. . The medical centre will complete the accident report form and return a copy to you that you must send to the M.G.D. by post within the next seven days (art. 16 of the Law of Insurance Contracts). All expenses will be paid direct to the Doctor/Medical Centre. Any indemnities will be paid to you direct.

In emergencies the medical centre has a provisional form that they will complete but this is only valid for the first visit. You must subsequently replace this provisional form by the accident report at the medical centre. Should you not do so you will loose the right to any further consultations or treatments together with the reimbursement of any expenses or indemnity, to which you may be entitled. The M.G.D. reserves the right to reclaim from you the cost of the first attendance should you not be correctly affiliated or if the Federation do not confirm that the accident occurred in the process of a sporting activity.

Rest periods prescribed by the medical centre are obligatory. The M.G.D. will reject liability for any accident occurring during obligatory rests periods and you will loose any assistance or indemnities that you would otherwise be entitled to.

Should the medical centre clear you before the prescribed rest period detailed in the accident report, you must inform the M.G.D. giving them the number of the accident report.

NOTE – THE INSURANCE YEAR COMMENCES ON THE 1ST. JANUARY BUT COVER COMMENCES AFTER THE APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE  (NEW OR  RENEWAL)  IS RECEIVED.
