|
|
Belplaya BC: Diane Chambers (Federation Secretary) Benalmadena BC; Murray Johns (Federation Competition Secretary) Benavista BC; Ken McBride Los Amigos BC; Geoff Wright Mijas BC; Rob Robinson Santa Maria BC; Dorothy Nuttall Superbowl BC; John Owen (Federation Competition Committee) Tony Frowd; Federation Competition Committee The minutes of the last meeting were approved and Tony Winterton asked if there were any matters arising. Diane Chambers asked for the position of the Friendship Cup and Tri Provincial Trophy for the coming season and was informed that the Friendship cup had been dropped but the Tri Provincial would be reinstated in 2008. 1) Report on Summer League a)Results Murray Johns stated that he first season of the Summer League had been extremely successful with 126 bowlers participating, some comparatively new to competitive bowling and this could only be advantageous to the sport. The finish of the Triples League had been a cliffhanger as Mijas had dominated the table throughout and the last match decided the winner. Mijas lost narrowly to Benalmadena and Benavista Panthers defeated their club colleagues, the Tigers to take the title. The United Friends team had an exceptional season and could have won, where it not for the fact that they had to concede points in their last two matches for playing non federated players and were the only team to beat Benavista Panthers on their own ground. Credit had to be given to Denise Davis for the efficiency in which she conducted herself as Captain, despite many problems and had been a pleasure to work with. The Team 11 games went to the last match in which Benavista Tigers met Superbowl in an exciting finish of superb bowling in which the title was decided in the last three ends and Benavista came through to take their second League. The presentation dinner was held at Benavista Bowls club and attended by over sixty people. b)Lessons to be learned A few representatives expressed their member’s objections to the morning sessions in Team 11 and would prefer a 6pm start and Tony Winterton stated that this could be changed next Season if everybody agreed. He asked all representatives to consult with their Club Committees. Murray Johns stated that there had been some objections to clubs with 2 teams entered, playing their home games at the end of the season and although he had asked at the April meeting for clubs to play their home games at the beginning of the season, no clubs had agreed but he would make sure that this was adopted in 2008. There had also been objections to the hybrid team of United Friends, but due to the new structure in 2008 League, United Friends could be registered as a team to meet the National criteria for the proposed inter-regional tournament in 2008 for the National title. C)Presentation of Trophies Benavista, the winners of the two Leagues, had staged a successful night, but Rob Robinson objected to the last minute change of venue as Mijas had been asked to organize the Presentation and it had been minuted in the Meeting of 13th April but was then changed without the courtesy of an explanation. Diane Chambers also expressed her dissatisfaction at the change of venue and date as several members of United Friends had arranged their holidays in August so as to be back for the Presentation. Tony Winterton apologized for any misunderstanding due to the breakdown in communication and accepted full responsibility for the error and stated that, in future, the winning team would host the event.
3) Malaga Cup Tony Winterton stated that the venue for this would now be changed to Superbowl and Santa Maria Bowling Clubs and suggested the mixed fours be changed to single sex to bring it in line with National Competitions. However, after much discussion the Committee decided to leave it mixed, due to the higher ratio of male bowlers to female bowlers in most clubs. The closing date for entries would be 30th November and sponsorship was under discussion with interested parties.. New Federation members would be permitted to pay their 2008 subscriptions by the end of November and be allowed to participate in the 2007 Malaga Cup and Xmas Hamper.
4)Andalucian Championships 2008 This Competition would be staged at Benavista and Superbowl Bowling Clubs and commence on Wednesday 30th January with the opening Ceremony held the day before at Benavista BC and, although Diane Chambers had furnished reasonable estimates for accommodation from the Costa Largo Hotel in Torremolinos, the Committee felt that it should use the estimates provided by Tony Farmer and Don Fisher for the Diana Park and Locrimar Hotels in San Pedro and Puerto Banus respectively, due to their proximity to the bowling venues. The price for the Diana Park was 45€ B & B per double room and Locrimar 50€ B & B per double room, but these prices could be discounted for booking more than 15 rooms. The closing date for entries is 28th November and the format, Ladies and gents Singles, Open pairs and Open rinks. An opening parade was discussed but most of the Commttee were in favour of a Welcoming ceremony to be hosted by Benavista Bowls Club and attended by dignitaries from local town halls. Commencing at 5pm, greens would be available by reservation and drinks and aperitifs would be served from 6pm, with every bowler attending issued a ticket to exchange for a wine, beer or soft drink. A Programme would be printed and issued before Xmas 2007. Costs were to be established to enable prices to be fixed for adverts and the deadline was Oct 31st 2007. This was to be executed by Diane Chambers and members of the Committee would canvass various printing firms for estimates. A Dinner Dance would be arranged for the evening of 2nd or 3rd February and Tony Farmer agreed to take this task on board. The Diana Park Hotel could accommodate up to one hundred people with music laid on and a 3 course meal with half bottle of wine pp for between 25 & 30€ pp and details could be updated at the next meeting. The Closing Ceremony on Wednesday 6th February would be held at Superbowl Bowls Club.
5)National Championships 2008 The Singles qualifications would be decided at the next National Committee meeting and it was agreed unanimously by the Malaga Committee that equal representation should be given to Malaga as to the other regions of Spain as the ratio at the moment was extremely unfair. Murray Johns suggested Miraflores BC as the proposed venue for the qualifying games and the Committee agreed. He also stated that accommodation would be North of Torrevieja for the 2008 games and that, hopefully, a list of hotels would be forthcoming.
5a)Champion of Champions At this Competition, held in mid September, Malaga would be represented by Benavista Champion Steve Mcmanus and possibly Brian Todd from Benalmadena and Mary Hilton from Santa Maria. These were the only names submitted to date. 5b) Qualification for National Pairs Competition Tony Winterton hoped that there would be a stronger entry for next year’s competition and all representatives agreed to take the Committee’s comments back to their Clubs. Murray Johns stated that objections had been made to using the winning pairs from the Malaga Cup, so he hoped that the individual clubs would provide their own Champions. 6) World Bowls a) Anti-doping laws Tony Winterton pointed out that new anti-doping laws were now applied to bowls at International level and beta blockers were on the banned list and he stressed the importance of obtaining an exemption certificate should any competitor be using them for health reasons b)Annual Return Tony Winterton handed out the forms for the Annual returns and reminded representatives that the Federation would pay the fees for Federated members and all returns were to be completed by December. 7)Register of Members ( For World Bowls and Federation purposes) Tony Winterton reminded representatives that names, addresses and DOB of all club members were to be collected for the National Register and handed out forms for the same. He pointed out that Corporate Federation members under 60 years of age were cat 3, over 60’s cat V and Federation members with Personal applications were Cat 1. Corporate membership would remain the same for 2008 @ 20€ pp but the individual membership was not yet known but would increase with inflation to 30/31€. 8)Duties of Club Representatives The duty of Federation representatives on the Committee was to :- a) Collect the License fees for 2008 b) Control entry sheets for Competitions, collect entry fees and advise Competition Committees of entries before draw date. c) Check that entrants are federated. 9) Any other business Murray Johns put forward a suggestion that the Federation pay the 10€ administration fee for bowlers attending the proposed Umpires Course next month, however Tony Winterton said this would not be possible as he would have to apply to the National Committee and, if successful, it could apply next season. However some representatives felt that Federation funds would be better placed in sending instructors to clubs to provide marker’s courses and bowling instruction to new bowlers. John Owen stated that there would be a new style exam at the proposed Umpires course to be held 16th, 23rd and 30th of October at Benavista and it would be divided into oral, written and practical sessions. Geoff Wright asked about a new bowling club he had seen advertising for bowlers at Lauro Golf and he had been to the venue but there was nothing there. Murray Johns replied that there was a proposed bowling green to be constructed at Laura Golf and that John Carr, organizer of the website www.bowlinginspain.com was liasing with the company and that the Malaga Committee were aware of this. Tony Winterton informed the Committee that Kate Shields had officially tendered her resignation to the owners Committee and was retiring completely from Bowling due to ill health and possible relocation to the UK. As this will leave a serious gap in the coordination of certain events, the Committee resolved to offer the services of the Competition Committee to coordinate the following events;- 1) The League 2) The League Cup 3) The President’s Fours These would be run under the current arrangements including the participation of non Federated players. The Committee would also be prepared to take over responsibility for the handbook.
All business concluded Tony Winterton closed the meeting at 1.30pm and thanked the representatives for attending.
10) Date of Next meeting. Will members of the Committee please note that due to the Anniversary Fives Competition, the date has now CHANGED to TUESDAY 23RD OCTOBER, 10.30AM AT SANTA MARIA Bowls Club.
