24/04/2007 - World Championship Selection

At the last squad meeting held at Almeria Bowling Club, it was agreed that eight men and eight ladies would be chosen to attend Finca Guila Bowling Club for two further days where the final selection for the World Championships would be made.  The greens in New Zealand, we are informed, will be running at 18 seconds but could become faster.  Although a great deal of time has already been spent by the selectors in endeavouring to chose the final fives, we wish to see how the last eight will not only adjust to a fast green but also how various combinations will work together.  We are very anxious to be able to inform those finally selected as early as possible and for this reason we are holding the two day meeting on the 26/27 May.  We would have liked to make this earlier but both Nick and Lynne are in Australia for the World Cup and their priority has to be that event.  The date will, though, fit in well with the end of the Nationals and lessen the travelling for those from further a field.  It should also enable the players to be more relaxed away from the pressure of their own activities.

The World Championships are the most important event in our calendar and it is important that every effort is made in ensuring that Spain is represented by a team that is going to succeed.

The eight men attending are J Breslin, N Cole, C English, M Greenwood, M Johnson, K Jones, B Latham, B Manser.

The eight ladies are P Cole, D Colquhoun, S Fletcher, A Goodfellow, M Holmes, M Lawley, C Meare, L Metcalf.

It may well be that many bowlers would like to attend and view the games at some time over the two days and I am sure they will be welcomed subject to space availability.  Remember, it is you, the bowlers in Spain, that the players are representing.  They need your support and encouragement.
