04/10/2006 - Andalucian Bowling Federation, (FAB), Malaga Delegation, Meeting

Meeting of the Malaga Provincial Committee
at
Mijas Lawn Bowls Club
Wednesday 4th October 2006

Tony Winterton opened the meeting at ten thirty and welcomed the representatives from each of the Malaga Clubs,

Jeff Wright representing Los Amigos B.C,
Charles Ottoway and Trevor Burgin representing Belplaya B.C,
Nick Coles representing Benalmadena B.C,
Bill Ogden representing Benavista B.C.
John Owen representing Superbowl
Tony Frowd (Representative to National Committee) from Mijas B.C.
Murray Johns, (Deputy Delegate) from Mijas B.C.
Diane Chambers (Secretary) from Benalmadena B.C.
Dorothy Nuttall (Treasurer) from Santa Maria B.C.

1) As minutes of the last meeting of the Malaga Provincial Committee on 26th of July 2006 had been distributed to all the representatives by the Secretary, Tony Winterton declared them as read and asked if there were any matters arising.
Diane Chambers asked if there had been any reconsideration on the proposed new fee for 2007 of 29€ and Tony Winterton said there had not and it would remain at that figure, although a letter had been received from the Committee of Mijas B.C, proposing a one off license fee of 1000€ to cover all their members and Tony Winterton said this would not be possible and would explain the reasons later in the meeting.
2) Appointment of a Regional Committee-Treasurer
Due to personal reasons and other commitments, Dorothy Nuttall had tendered her resignation and Murray Johns was duly appointed to the post.
3) Report By Delegate on meeting with owners Committee
To clarify the problems that had arisen with the meetings with owners Committee, Tony Winterton had written a paper which he distributed to Committee members to alleviate future conflicts. Murray Johns stated that he wholly agreed with it and that he would like to see harmonization amongst the Provinces as well.

Programme for Season 2006/7

a) National Champion of Champions
It was understood that Pam Coles representing Mijas B.C, and Terry Barrett and Mary Potter from
Santa Maria would be traveling to Almeria to represent Malaga in this forthcoming event.

b) National Team Trials 29th/30th October Country Bowls B.C.
The following names, considered to be of the required standard and meeting the criteria required, had been put forward for consideration along with a detailed CV.
Douglas Bowden, Benavista B.C.
Samuel Hughes, Benavista B.C.
Tony Frowd, Mijas B.C.
Denise Davis, Benalmadena B.C.

c)
Malaga Cup 6-12th December
A poster, shown to the Committee and subject to approval, would be distributed to all the clubs. The events advertised were Ladies and Gent’s Pairs, Mixed Triples and Mixed rinks ie;- 2 gentlemen and 2 Ladies and entries would close two weeks before the starting date.
Tony Frowd explained that all disciplines would be played to a conclusion instead of the normal break between matches and final and, guaranteed after questions from Dorothy Nuttall, that a player would play no more than two games in one day.
The Committee felt, after discussion, that the ‘plate’ games that had been suggested at the last meeting be postponed until next year, to give the increased format a chance, as inclement weather might reduce the amount of days played.
Tony Winterton added that any bowler wishing to federate early for 2007 to play in this tournament would be given the same concession as in other years.

e) Andalucian Championships
1-8th February 2007
A quote of 42€ per double room with bed and breakfast, had been obtained from the Hotel Mojacar Playa. However, it was agreed that more hotels be approached as some members of the Committee thought that this was a little expensive for the time of the year. As Tony Winterton and Tony Frowd would be in Almeria in the coming weeks, it was agreed that they would obtain some more estimates on accommodation.

f) Friendship Cup 27th/28th February 2007
There were conflicts with this date and the competition organized by Benalmadena B.C, and the proximity of the Andalucian Championships
held in the Almeria Province, but the Committee agreed to explore the possibilities of making this a less formal event as per title and invite newer bowlers and would make enquiries to coach travel and an organized ‘get together’ before the event, as had been successfully introduced with the recent Tri Provincial, which was agreed would be the more competitive event of the two.

g) National Championships- Preliminary round singles
The decision for the format for this event would be decided after the Interprovincial meeting on Saturday 14th October.

h) National Championships May 2007 North Alicante

i) National Championship Pairs Ladies and Gentlemen’s
Due to lack of dates in the tight schedule of the 2006/7 Season, it was decided that
Malaga Province would send the four semifinalists from the Malaga Cup.

5) Leagues

Summer 2007
It was agreed that the format for the Summer League, ie. Six triples remain the same for year 2007 and they would be played on a Monday evening, but the matches would commence on 1st June, a month earlier than the previous season. This would be a Federated event but smaller clubs would be allowed to amalgamate and make up a team. Dorothy Nuttall stated that, although Santa Maria
normally closed during the summer months she would explore the possibility of the club opening for these fixtures.

Evening League
This too was to be a Federated event and, although it had been intended as a Winter event, it was agreed by the Committee to implement it initially in the summer months 2007. A team would be made up of twelve players, a rink, a trips, a pairs and Ladies and gents singles. Amalgamation by smaller clubs to make up a team would be permitted in this event too; provided that each player was Federated and each team would be twelve players plus three reserves, a total of fifteen players. This event would commence in June and be played on Wednesday evenings.

6) Annual Return to World Bowls
Tony Winterton informed the Committee that this fee of 40 cents per player was due on
1st December 2006. All Federated members fees were paid by the Federation and he distributed a list of these members to each representative, so that Clubs could pay the non federated fees. This payment would be due at the next meeting.

7) License Renewals for 2007
The fee had been set at 29€ for 2007 and the proposal from Mijas B.C for a block payment of 1000€ for all their members was untenable due to the conditions laid down by the Insurance Company. However, Tony Winterton assured the Committee that, if there was an unexpected increase in the number of Federated players, there was a possibility of the fee being reduced in 2008.

8) Any Other Business
Bill Ogden gave a brief explanation of the new owner’s intentions at Benavista B.C.. The land where the bowling green was to be used as a terrace for the bar and a children’s play area, but the bowling green would be moved to the potanca site. Planning permission had been applied for but nothing would be done before June 2007.

Murray Johns informed the Committee that Dennis Humpleby, a valued member, and his wife
Myra had moved to Portugal on 1st October and Diane Chambers suggested that a letter be sent thanking him for his service and wishing them well in their new home. This was agreed unanimously.

John Owens reported that he had realized a sponser in the form of B.Win of Gibraltar for the 2 wood pairs Competition running at Superbowl and, as it had been so successful, he proposed to run an ‘Invited’ pairs Competition !8th-22nd December 2006. There would be ‘Big’ money prizes and he would like to make it a Federated event.

Relating to the situation discussed at the last meeting on the Umpire’s Committee. It was reported that a meeting had been called at the end of October to update the situation.

Nick Cole announced that he had received information that a ‘new’ municipal bowling green was to be built at Nerja that would come under the umbrella of the Malaga Committee and he would keep the Committee informed of the developments.

All business concluded, Tony Winterton thanked the representatives for coming and closed the meeting at 12.30pm.
The next meeting of the Committee was set for Thursday 14th December at
10.30am at Mijas B.C.
