Miraflores Lawn Bowls Club (MLBC)  Halloween Event

Nov. 2018 - Miraflores BC

Report by Grant Frost, photo editing by John Carr.

Stormy Halloween At Miraflores!

It has long been a tradition at Miraflores to hold a funday on Halloween. Around 30 people turned up to join in the fun from, members, visitors and some new bowlers. Instead of playing with your partner a draw was held to decide who played together, this resulted in many interesting pairings!

We were extraordinarily lucky with the weather we were greeted with cloudless skies then the cloud and wind built during the morning but the bowling finished before the heavy rain arrived.

The format for the event was 3 short games of 6 ends with the winners moving on to play the losers on a nearby rink after each game. The overall winner being decided by games won and then shot difference. Unusually 5 teams were undefeated throughout! So it all came down to shot difference. Only 3 shots separated 3rd, 4th & 5th. Pam Kinane & Linda Cordner in 2nd place had a shot difference of +20, while the winning pair of Ron Clough & Paula had a stunning +27!

There were prizes of wine for touchers in the 3 games and a bottle of cava for the winner of the spider. The winners received a bottle of wine each. There were also prizes of wine for the best dressed couples which were won by Ron & Anne Clough and Rod & Lisa Heard.

Once the bowling finished everybody enjoyed a hot lunch until everyone took their leave from an event that all agreed had been a great deal of fun!

Finally, the Miraflores Open (sponsored by Ibex Insurance) starts on Saturday 10th November every day through to the finals on Sunday 18th November as always spectators are welcome to visit one of the highlights of the bowling calendar while enjoying refreshments from the fully stocked bar.
