After much juggling with the schedule due to adverse weather conditions, the tournament finally got underway on Sunday afternoon, 25th March, in cold and damp conditions. In stark contrast, the players on Monday morning were greeted with warm sunshine, which fortunately continued throughout the remainder of the competition.

Two second round matches ended tied and went to an extra end, with Lynda Hall, Geoff Hall and John Bell coming from behind to overcome the team of Jeff Turner, Mary Moynihan and John Pierce 15-14. Tom Rogers, playing with Phil and June Baldry, also came from behind to force an extra end against the Benalmadena team of Alex Bradley, Ian Patterson and Tony Bassett, and triumphed 13-12.

Monday afternoonís quarter finals resulted in narrow wins for the other Benalmadena team of Terry Barrett, Neil Stanton and Heather Mainwaring over the La Posada team of Georg Hamblin, Jeff Rowe and Les Springham, 15-13, with the Santa Maria team of Gordon Kain, Margaret Kain and Brig Gunn winning by the same scoreline against the Lauro team of Barry Holt, Julian Thomas and Angie Holt. There were also wins for Garry Aldridge, Jenny Aldridge and Arthur Lees from Santa Maria over Lynda Hallís team and Tom Rogerís team again came from behind to force an extra end against the team of Roberto Wright, Bill Gregory and Juan Abeal, finally winning 15-11.

Tuesday morningís semi finals featured Garry Aldridgeís team against that of Tom Rogers, with Tomís team winning comfortably 21-11. The other semi final, between Terry Barrettís team and Gordon Kainís was a much closer affair. With 2 ends remaining, the scores were tied at 13-13 but Gordonís team finally triumphed 16-14.

So, the final on Tuesday afternoon saw Tom Rogers, with Phil and June Baldry, up against Gordon and Margaret Kain with Brig Gunn. Gordonís team took an early 4-1 lead but then Tomís team took control, winning end after end and, although Gordonís team rallied somewhat, the match was clearly out of their reach when they conceded defeat after 16 ends with the score standing at 8-21 against them.

At the trophy presentation, Tournament Organiser, Jeff Rowe, thanked all the competitors for their support and for their patience over the schedule changes at the start of the competition caused by the bad weather. In response, Tom Rogers thanked all the team at La Posada for putting on a well run and enjoyable tournament.
