22/09/2009 - Tony McKenna - National Championships

Can I be one of the first to congratulate this year's National Championship winners. WhilstI don't know their intentions can I also urge Doreen & Mark to accept their invitations to World Bowls Singles Champion of Champions next year. You've earned the privilege to represent Spain on the international stage; go and enjoy it. Whilst there is no doubt that, for a host of reasons, this year's Championships have been devalued, to the detriment of Spanish Bowling, the fault lies not with the players, they did what they had to do - they went out and won. Well done! I sincerely hope that future decisions regarding the format of National Championships are taken with the utmost regard for the future of Spanish bowling at all levels.

For the sake of competitive bowling in Spain, and a healthy Federation, we cannot afford another poorly attended Nationals. I understand that the Valencian Championships turned a profit without a major sponsor so there is no reason why a large scale tournament cannot be a success. In my opinion there is only one place that should host a Nationals and that is Torrevieja.
