09/04/2009 - Rick Wright - Discusses "The Way Forward"

I have read "The Way Forward" document and unless I am missing something very fundamental (I am sure I will be informed if I am) a move is been contemplated by the N.E.C. that in my opinion could well be a backward step rather than a way forward. Furthermore it could seriously undermine all the good work that has been done.

For a start how are the FEB in Madrid going to react when they suddenly do not receive our annual 33.000 euros? Seems to me they will not be too impressed!!  I presume as the governing body, quango or not, they are in a position to make things very difficult for all bowlers in Spain whatever their discipline and that includes us lawn bowlers.  It appears that albeit slowly, lawn bowling is being accepted by the FEB. We were told we were allocated 4 votes to be used in the FEB Presidential election this was a first, we have also received some grants for our National Squad both seem to me to be positive steps. As the saying goes we must walk before we can run.  Not so very long ago we were being encouraged to support the corporate membership scheme offered by the FEB, this by the same people who are now advocating that we leave the organization, what's that all about?

Over the years I have watched elements of the CBBA set up being adopted by the NEC (Champion of Champions, Umpires and Markers Association etc.) this does not surprise me. As a past member of the CBBA I can vouch for the fact that it was and I am sure still is a very well organised and well run organization for bowlers. How do Costa Blanca bowlers feel about the highjacking of their Association? will they have to set up a new organization to replace the tried and tested CBBA? Perhaps some of them will use the forum to let us know how they feel.

To use the CBBA as a cover for setting up Lawn Bowls Spain while at the same time effectively divorcing ourselves from the country's governing body for the sport does not appear to me to be the right way forward at the present time.

I have to say that the above is only my interpretation of what is proposed. It would be nice to see such an important matter discussed fully and this forum is one avenue that can help in that, so come on bowlers lets hear your views.
