There is no doubt that the status of the Spanish team has
grown, on the International scene in recent years.
Qualification for the World Championships is evidence of
this fact. I also realise that to achieve this has entailed
much hard work on the part of the Assistant
Directors. Question. Why don’t we have a Director anymore?
While visiting the “Bowling in Spain” website recently I
clicked on the “World Bowls” link provided on the home page.
It is full of information, including full details of all
teams taking part in the World Championships in New Zealand
in January. The draw, when and where they play is also there
as is the full composition of the squads attending.
Question. What happened to our National Coach and his
Assistant?
I ask the question because I note that our remaining
Assistant Director is named as the Men’s team Coach while
his wife is designated as Coach for the Ladies. I feel sure
there must be a perfectly good reason for this action.
However as I and many other fully paid up Federation members
are not privy to that reason I am left to draw my own
conclusion (Tony, Cherie, and freebies) was first to
spring to mind. I realise that that conclusion is to say
the least very controversial but I am probably not the only
one making it. So please will someone tell me the real
reason.
This article is penned mainly as a plea for more
information. We as Federation members are interested
in what is happening. When there are trials as there were
recently, with a view to increasing the Ladies Squad. It
would be nice to be told who are taking part. If we know,
we can then give them the congratulations & encouragement
they deserve at club level. The quarterly Federation
newsletters are good but with the increase in International
activity etc. perhaps a monthly newsletter would be better.
I would refer everyone to the last two sentences of the
article posted in the Federation section of this site dated
24/04/07
entitled “World Championship Selection”
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our
team’s a safe journey and good luck in New Zealand. We
will be supporting you and following your progress.
Enjoy your bowling.

P.S. In case you did not know BBC TV are covering the World
Championships.
