3/08/2007 - Len Pilling on the Federation

Hello at the Fed?
Having recently returned from the UK and updated ourselves on the plans for the Nationals 2008 we'd like to say well done Monte Mar, our former club.
As I expected to be away we did not renew our Fed membership and so we sat out last years nationals as spectators, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We would just comment that some days it was as if the BBC were not expecting us, or anybody, on the worst day it took 45 minutes to get a sandwich!  The chicken curry, when available, was rather good though.
The committee must have been pleased the way they seemed to create more time, by qualifying the singles no doubt, last 32 was it?
Why not qualify all disciplines to last 16 games, 32 pairs/trips & fours.
This would give the committee the opportunity to introduce the popular discipline of mixed pairs. We live in hope.
The advantage of Fed membership had never been explained to us, I asked if there was a leaflet that explained the benefits, No. We were just told we had to be members to play in the Nationals, nothing more.
We now find we cannot play in the Kings Cup, the C o C's etc, etc.
Most distressing of all we are not covered by the Fed insurance scheme, when other members of the same team are?
We believe that Fed membership should be mandatory/automatic for every member of every bowls club in Spain without exception.
The fee should be added to the annual membership fee and paid over to the Fed within 30 days by the club treasurer. Say 12 euros for annual, 11 euros for new members, 10, 9, 8, 7 etc down to 1 euro for those joining clubs in the last month of the year.
If thats too much then quarterly, 12, 9, 6 & 3 euros.
Whatever, we will both certainly federate for next year as soon as forms are available.
Well done the committee, keep up the good work and happy bowling.

Len and Barbara Pilling, Javea Green B.C.
